My Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card is going to make exit from my rig soon. I love the sound quality and software, but it randomly will completely stop working. It WILL work again after physically switching it to another PCI slot or taking it out, booting, install again, and a third boot. Since this has happened on 2 different systems I'm guessing the card's the issue. Are these known for having certain problems with certain platforms or mobos? (used under 98SE/XP and with a shuttle skt A/ soltek skt 754 board)

The good news is this gives me an excuse to upgrade. :) Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I'm really hoping to hit a combo soundcard/headphones that would be quality without hitting high audiophile costs. (can't afford $250 Sennheisers) Here is the situation:

-stationary, A64 rig has other components installed and solid
-99% of the time headphones will be used instead of speakers
-audio quality for music is the priority, then games, then DVD's etc
-room noise is constant but moderate
-have onboard audio but it's lacking (pops, tinny)

Since I won't be running a 7.1 system or using high-end digital input/output those features would be mostly wasted. (yet are the most advertised features) I'm going for best pure audio from the card to my ears. What's a good solution between $10 BB headphones and $200+ lids? Any replies or general input would be appreciated. (please excuse my audio shortcomings, it's the last piece of my new system)

Any big difference between those and Creative's line? I've looked at both and haven't come to a consesus.

PC100 from Sennheiser, 150's if you want a headset

Had these on my list but didn't want to taint any responses. ;) In real use, how well does the "Nose Canceling" feature work? (would go with the 150's for the headset for future)

Thanks for the reply, looks like the 150's are sub $50 which is the ballpark figure I'm looking at.

neither of those are noise cancelling. Only the microphone on the 150's are. The noise cancelling ones(the actual headset noise cancelling) get worse reviews that the 100's(I think they are the PX200 or 300). The model I meant was the PX100. Only get the PC150 is you want a headset. The PX100's are pretty amazing

Oh and Creative is generally regarded as better for gaming as it will get you higher FPS. And the M audio is higher sound quality(how much more I don't know)

Does it run okay in your Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR? (my mobo) I'm thinking of replacing it with another TBSC but don't want to have the same problem. (the TBSC has excellent sound IMHO)

I'm actually still waiting for it to arrive. Should be here any day now. I sold my Audigy several weeks ago and haven't missed it since.

I'd go with the M-Audio card & AKG for headphones. Sennheisers are overrated. Too many of their headphones are suited for a particular type of music.

M-Audio revo PWNS the audigy 2 in music, the creative cards have some advantages in games but thats all.
