I'm taking a trip to Chicago for some technical training next week. From the airport I will be traveling about 15 miles from the O'Hare airport. How much do you think the price will be? I'm only going to be in Chicago for about 9 hours so I won't be renting a car or anything.

I will be expensing the fee to my company. I guess I really need to know whether or not I will be able to get a receipt or not? (I've never taken a cab before...). I think I will be paying cash because I'm not sure who does or doesn't accept debit/credit. I need a receipt though in order to expense the fee though.

Any quick answers? I'm hoping it's no more than $50 each way. I don't like to carry too much cash when I travel.

$20 to 30ish each way probably, they will give you a receipt if you ask for one (you fill in the amount)

pay in cash since it takes them forever to do a credit transaction

is this for a trip downtown?

Yes, it will be downtown (i think).

Palmer House Hilton is where the training will be.

Yea, that is downtown. Depending on the time of day (traffic) it could be more like $40

another option is to take the Blue Line (train) downtown which can drop you about a block from the hotel, it's cheaper but the trip takes about 45 minutes

it's a crapshoot as to which is faster not knowing if the highway from ORD is borked that particular morning

Most hotel shuttles will not go 15 miles, but generally the hotel will help you figure out the most economical way to get there.

From http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/h...Illinois/directions.do
Transportation to and from the Airport
Type Typical Minimum Charge
Bus Service 25.00 USD
Limousine on request/cost varies
Subway/Rail 2.00 USD
Taxi 35.00 USD
When taking public transportation from O'Hare International Airport, take the Blue Line train to Monroe/Dearborn stop. Take Monroe east to the hotel. The Palmer House is on the south side of the street.

Hey guys this has been a TON of help!

I will most likely take a cab though as I have the training that starts about 1.5 hr maybe less from when I arrive at the airport. I am thinking the cab is more direct route? Regardless of traffic?

I did call the hotel actually couple weeks ago to ask about a shuttle. THey did have a direct service back and forth but not really a time limit as to how long it would take to get there. I will probably take a cab to the hotel, but then the shuttle back as I have a 4 hour gap between the end of my training to the take off of my flight. I was thinking of going around for about an hour checking things out. I may skip that though and wait until another time.

I almost got lost trying to "get out of" the Denver airport once. It was big, and had trains 'inside' of the airport to get around. It was my first time there. Took me about half an hour to get out of there. lol.

Is the Chicago airport relatively simple to get around? I'm out of Omaha, NE so the longest I've ever had to wait to get through security has been about an hour.

I would take the blue line train in. It's 45 minutes, but taking a cab can actually take longer when there's traffic. The blue line will take you right into downtown and a short walk to the Palmer House hotel.

EDIT:

O'Hare is a big airport, but it's not difficult to navigate.

ORD is not real simple to navigate, just try to follow the signs for ground transport/taxis

Granted, I have only spent a few weeks in Chicago over the past year, but I have never seen I-90 not screwed up. :p I suggest the Blue Line.

If you are coming in any time during the week and it's from 6:00-9:00AM or 3:30-7:00PM the train will probably be faster.
