We never had a surplus. It was "PROJECTED." And the recession that started a full year before Bush took office destroyed those projections.

And to be honest, I'd rather have a deficit and a war against terror, than a surplus and a bunch of 9/11s happening again.

I know this to be true, because this is what my in-laws did. Not just welfare - they forced their kids to fail all their tests in school so they could register them as stupid, to get SSI. After living there for so long and getting closer to 30 than 20, they finally got fed up and left - now the household has no income, and with 100k in debt (thanks to banks that kept lending them loans to buy a crapload of christmas presents and ATV's - which were reposessed) and very little SSI "income" left, they will eventually have no choice but bankruptcy and they will lose their house and 25 acres of property that were completely paid off. And now all of the kids (except for my wife ) are too dim and inexperienced to get good jobs and are forced to work under the table for low wages - but even then they refuse to work.

It should be like this: 1 child, you get a tax break. After that 1 child, no more tax break, AND Social Security taxes actually increase on the 2nd+ children. Because after all you're paying for their retirement...

Instead of Welfare, the government should setup a program where the recipients work somewhere, and the government reimburses that company 105%. Then after a time, let's say a year, the reimbursement goes away but both the employee and the employer don't pay taxes for another year. Then after that they're on their own and can't refile for assistance for another 5 years.
