I have been earning money with my website last year, and I received 1099 forms (similar to W2, i think). Unfortunately, I am still missing one. Twice I've emailed the company that is responsible for providing this information and they have assured me that they will send it out, but I have still not received it. The time draws very near and I don't know what to do. I've asked them to simply tell me the amount under "Nonemployee compensation," but they wouldn't. What should I do? Would it be possible for me to estimate the amount based on my own records? I haven't kept great records. This is also my first time paying taxes.

Any advice is appreciated.

You'll need to research the specifics with the IRS, but I think you can report the company for not providing you with the 1099...

1) Estimate what the company may have paid you.

2) Figure out your tax situation based on the estimate.

3) File for an extension - On the extension, there is a block for explanations

a) If you think you owe $$$, send in a check with the extension request.

4) If the slowpoke is within driving distance, go over there and get the 1099.

5) IF not, get there bookkeeping dept on the phone and get an explanation. Move up the chain by phone if you have to

6) Keep a log of all correspondence or attempts.

Follow EagleKeeper's advice, only thing I'd add is to send the company a registered / return receipt letter asking for your 1099 and listing the prior calls you've made. The IRS does have penalties for them not providing the 1099 if the amount paid is above some amount ($900?)
