First of all,
I would not define this as fraud since you are using the 100% Satisfaction 60-Day Money-Back Garuntee. Let your own conscience be your guide.
The Deal:
TaxCut has a bug which prevents you from from completing the Final Error Check and thus being unable to finish the interview and file electronically. I spent a good half hour on a long distance phone call tracking down this bug with a coustomer service rep., and the end result was that I should get a refund. I was able to do the interview and print out my tax forms and could mail them in if I didn't want to file electronically for the quicker refund.
The Bug:
If you have an entry in Box 10 of your W-2 (Dependant care benefits provided by your employer), then the program will place "See W-2" in Line 1 of Section II on the Child/Dependant Care Worksheet. It will Gray-Out the entries for the provider's City, State, Zip Code, SSN/EIN(Employer Identification Number), and Ammount. "See W-2" is actually actually a correct entry for this form and should not cause any errors, but when you do the Final Error Check 5 errors are reported (those entries listed above). These entries should come from the W-2 entries you made at the begining of the interview, but when you select one of the entries and click the [+] symbol at the upper-left of the entry, and select the Entry Comes From tab, it states that "This entry is not carried here from another form." You are unable to eaven override the entry. Therefore there is no way to correct this entry, and no way to do the Final Error Check and finish the interview. This error should prevent the average person from being 100% Satisfied (the basis for the refund).
The Refund:
On page 3 of the Quick Start Guide (TaxCut Delux) are the instructions for the refund. You must notify H&R Block of your dissatisfaction with the software within 60 days of your initial reciept of the software. You must mail the original CD-ROM media and a copy of the sales receipt, the reason for your request, and your return address to:
H&R Block Digital Tax Solutions, Inc
P.O. Box 2816
Van Nuys, CA 91404-2816
The Rebate:
TaxCut Delux comes with a $5 rebate that requires a copy of the sales receipt and the original UPC off the box. The refund states that they will refund your money less any taxes, shipping, or rebate. They should refund the entire purchase price if you didn't send out the rebate, but you should probably send the rebate form anyway. You may actually make $5 on this deal.
The Rant:
Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed about having to stay up until midnight tracking down a bug in this software and having to pay for a 30 minute long-distance call. It would please me greatly if everyone who could take advantage of this deal did.
The CYA Statement:
You do not qualify for this deal if you filed electronically. I am not qualified to give tax advice. This is just Hot Deal advice.
