whoops, this might not be such a hot deal because the state return isn't free as of yet, IIRC the state was free last year so stay tuned. Feel free to flame for the oversight

I have used this software the past few years and it is very good. I have turned quite a few people on to it as well. If you want to e-file, it is only $12.95.

I didn't know if he was being serious about there being states w/o income tax or not. I had heard that some didn't but they just jack up property taxes. Who knows?

Never tried this, but I liked the H&R Block deal for this year. Free filing for state and federal if you got the refund on their debit card.

No Income tax here in TN, but we suffer from 9.25% sales tax on everything except groceries, and they are still 8.25%.

Back on Topic, I have used TaxACT for the past 3 or 4 years. It's very easy to use.

There are about 6 states with no income tax

NH
FL
TX
TN
AK
NV

Most online version will not allow you to import files from a competitor.
The offline version may. The offline versions will not allow you to file for free - you must use the online version and possibly go through a special portal.

More details should be in the Tax Thread in OT ast the end of the month

i think last year i used taxfreedom.com .. powered by turbotax..?

I'm in Washington and we don't have to file state part... to efile i think i had to pay 9.95... this one says free... does that mean free to efile depending on your income? ... something like that? taxfreedome is free if you make less then... a certain amt (i think 27K)

here in tx, we have no income tax, but sales tax is 8.25% and property taxes are through the roof.

It all evens out.

And we get overcharged for electricity. :p
