Tax Withholding question

Morning everyone,

Ok, I am thinking of changing my withholding status on my paycheck from Single Claiming 1/0 to Married claiming 1/0. The reason why is because I am getting married in July of this year but want to reap the benefits of changing my withholding status a little early. As far as I can tell, whatever your status is on the last day of the year is what you claim for the year. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Is this legal?

Any input is appreciated.

You can claim whatever you want. A client has one guy withholding for 17 dependents, the max the software will allow. He'll get hit with underpayment penalties though.

Just figure out how much you think you'll owe, then divide by the number of pay periods, and tell your PR folks to withhold that amount from each paycheck. Far easier than trying to figure out how many people to put down.
