so i filed my taxes over 3 weeks ago and i havent gotten my refund yet. I have it on direct deposit too, so i am not getting a check in the mail to save time. I was wondering what the hold up could be. My wife was having to work some stuff out with hers because some bogus company randomly sent her to collections for no reason, so would that cause a hold up in tax returns?

Did you mail your return? Are you the only person filing a return this year? Are you sure there aren't a few other people, like maybe a few million, maybe tens of millions? Stop trying to cut in line.

Paper returns are 4-6 weeks min with direct deposit.

Collections will generate an IRS letter when the check is to be processed if a collection of Federal debt has any impact.

OMG!!! 3 whole weeks!!! That's like almost 15 business days!

In other words, stop being so impatient.

E-file is 2-3 weeks turn around. Also, did you check thestatus a couple ofdays after filing to ensure that the return was accepted?

If this has been a month since filing, check the link that someone posted above regarding tracing the refund.

It should said how long you should expected to get the deposit, usually 2 weeks. BTW, did you got an email confirmation from the IRS or the software you used that the IRS accepted your filing? Also, how you did sign it? Electronic using the IRS pins or do you have to send in a piece of paper with your signature. (I e-file, but have to send in my signature because I lost some info. on my last year return.)

February 14th - E-Filed
February 21st - Checked the status and it said received. If no errors were found I would see my return on March 7th.
February 27th - Checked the status again and it said accepted and my return was to be directed deposited on March 2nd and it was. :)

12 business days total. :)
