I know that you can claim a deduction based on having to move jobs ie relocating. Question is does it matter if that job was part time. I was working part time in school and upon graduation I moved more than 100 miles (which I think is the minimum required amount) to start working fully. Therefore, the costs that incurred on the trip (minus food); is it deductible?

Next one. Can you deduct the amount you paid in tag fees for a new car?

thereds, it looks to me like as long as you work 39 full-time weeks in the first 12 months after moving, you can take the deduction. Full details are here. Don't know about your tag fees, but I doubt you can deduct them.

evergreen96, itemized deductions go on Schedule A of the 1040. You are sure you have enough deductions to itemize?

"tag fees" can be personal property tax. Property taxes are deductable. Registration fees are not (unless they're a business expense).

It depends on how your state classifies the tag fees. In GA we have what's called an Ad Valorem tax on vehicles which is considered a property tax and can be deducted. You can't get your tag unless you pay these fees so most people consider them tag fees which they are not.
