Grrr, the IRS sucks.

Ok.. I was 1099'ed at a place for like 20 days this year. They never gave me a w2 or anything like it. I've waited now to file, with no luck.

who's responsibility are the taxes now? What the hell am I gonna do? They paid me in a personal check, which I had to physically cash because I was out of town. I have absolutely no records of this.

Reason I ask is because the IRS just sent me a damn letter for last year, for this same place. Worked there for like 1 week in 99, and they say I fscking owe them $430. This is for like MAYBE $1100 of work done. I NEVER GOT A FREAKING W2 OR ANYTHING. How am I to know wtf I'm supposed to report?

grr.

So what the hell do I do about this year, and what the hell do I do about last years?

I'm pretty sure if you get a 1099, you won't get a W-2. Did you file at all last year?

grr, I should have looked into this more back then.

They paid via cash and personal check, so I really have NO records of this. luckily I didn't file for 2000 yet, otherwise I woulda been completely and entire screwed with interest. It's like freaking highway robbery! 10% or so interest, for a small mistake. I need to find a way to invest in the IRS and make that kind of return.

Plus, joy o joy the company went out of business a few days after I flew back into MN, so I have no way of contacting them to figure out what they paid me. Also the IRS says that information isn't available until NEXT FREAKING YEAR. So I can either A. take a huge hit on interest, or B. estimate (yeah right) and probably take a huge hit anyways. She also said that if I overestimate, that they keep that money. Yippee. Hell, I don't know if the company even REPORTED me for last year.

I am now instantly anti-american. :)
