Tax question

dxkj

Lifer
When is it most financially advantageous to do so?

She will make ~ 10-15k a year, I will make ~ 50k

If we file seperately she gets the standard 4700 deduction or whatever

and I instead claim deductions itemized from our house and school loan.

Is that allowed?

Well. You cannot file completely separately. Once you are married the standard deduction is changed regardless if you file a joint tax return or a married filing separate tax return.

Browsing to IRS.gov and searching for the pub 1040 found here will assist you in finding out your standard deduction. (Hint, it's the box on the far left on top of page 2 right under Tax and Credits)

Researching further it will be more advantageous to you to file individually if you intend to claim itemized deductions, and it is indeed allowed.
