Tax Question

Beau

Lifer
my wife and i filed our taxes on time, but the return was rejected because she forgot to update her SS# with her new last name. So we had it changed, waited 4 weeks (as suggested by turbotax). As far as her returns that have her maiden name on them, should we leave them as listed, or should we update all instances of her name to her new name?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you mean old returns? No. Returns going forward, yes. The IRS just wants consistency between SS# and name that the SSD has.

I'm speaking about my 03 return. I haven't filed it yet, since we just got confirmation back that it's been changed. Should I change the name on all her w2's that have her maiden name to her married name, or will the IRS be able to see the SSD's records that her name used to be one way, but now it's this way? I don't want it to be rejected again...
