Is the tax I pay when I buy a car considered personal property tax?

Probably not. Unless it stated it was a personal property tax it was most likely a sales tax which is not deductible.

It varies from state to state. I think most of the tax is considered sales tax. Look at the paperwork, it should be spelled out.
