The balance of my bro's tuition was like $3k and my mom had to pay it after scholarships, grants, loans were applied. Can she deduct that on her income tax?

I know she can deduct interest paid on the loans, but what about tuition payments?

was the school supposed to send you something like a 1098T or something?
I remember when I had paid my tuition out of my pocket, my school sent me something and i was able
to deduct it.

lilcam, you might want to post this in the Tax thread. I believe she can deduct a portion of the tuition...what year is he in college? I don't think you necessarily have to receive a form from the school that shows how much you can deduct...just keep good records in case they ask.
