I filed my taxes online and I have already recieved my tax return. However.. I missed one of my W2 forms which came in the mail yesterday and I didn't file it with all my other ones. can i just start a whole new tax return and file this individual W2 by itself? if not, what do i have to do?

My ex did that once. Just file it next year and include the year 2000 at the top of you 1040.

You cannot start a new return and file that one by itself. Nor would I recommend trying to file it with next year's return.

The IRS computer-matches all W-2s up with the returns, and yours will show that you omitted a W-2. If that means you owe more tax, you'll no doubt owe interest (and possibly a penalty) on the extra tax. Re-figure your taxes using the new W-2 and see if it affects your final tax amount.

You should call the IRS and see what they recommend. I would think you'll be told to file an amended return (1040-X), but I don't think you can do that before April 15.

Your best bet is to file an ammended return for 2000 with a note as to why this was necessary.

The IRS FAQ answers that question here. The IRS instructions for handling the amended return are here. If you will owe additional tax, you should file an amended return BEFORE April 15 to avoid the penalty/interest.

Or, I could introduce you to my tax guy. He is licensed in all 50 states. He did 7,500 tax returns last year at $105 each. Figure that one out and you know how good he is! :)
