Hi all,

As the title says, the wife and I had our taxes done and will be getting our refund deposited on the 10th of February. Will there be any new cards out before then??? I'm just curious because I'm going to really start to narrow my choices down on what I'm going to buy.

I'm limiting my video card prices down to around $200. I'm buying other things as well but the video card choice is still up in the air! Right now I'm looking at the GTO2 or the 6800gs. Will there be any other competitors at that price range when I buy?? Hopefully the 7800gt?!? LOL

thanks,

Chappie

I doubt anything substantial will be available by Feb 11th. G71 are expected around mid-March and X1800 will be phased out (thus price drops are unlikely). 7800GT really has no competitors at $285 price level.

What will be your primary usage for this computer ? 6800GS and GTO2 cards look nice.

If gaming is your primary need and the cpu you plan on getting is at least A64 3200+, I'd spend a bit more on the graphics card instead. You can get $275 evga 7800GT, preoverclocked. This card has a 90-day step up program. If something comes out within 90 days you can just add a bit more $ if you get some and get 7900GT.

Hey Russian Sensation,

I've already bought my processor..Opteron 144. I'll also be buying a new MB (probably the Biostar Tforce6100), 1 gig of ram, new power-supply (fortron source or Xclio), and a new case..

Yes, I'm building this as a big upgrade project to game with..In a few months I'll probably add another gig of ram.

If your going to OC and unlock the exta pipes the the GTO2 is the way to go they can hit
x850xt pe speeds.

Another vote for the X800GTO^2. This is from a happy owner of a C3D X800GTO - OC'ed up the wazoo but unfortunately doesn't unlock :brokenheart:

There probably won't be anything new by then, but maybe the prices will drop a little bit. You can't go wrong with either the 6800GS or the X800GTO2. I think the VIVO 800GTO2 cards are coming with the 4 pipes already unlocked. I'm a happy X800GTO2 user. The X850XT is also coming down in price and is worth a look. The X850XT is what the X800GTO2 turns itself into when unlocked and overclocked, and has a beefier cooler.

NewEgg has a X850XT for $199 after rebate...only $10 more than the X800GTO2, and a much bigger cooler.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input...I'll definitely be watching the hardware scene very closely for the next 2 weeks!!! I like the gto2 card and the x850xt card...either way I guess I win because right now I'm running a 9600xt!! LOL

thanks again,
