tax filing question!

i am married living in maine and for two months of last year, my wife lived and worked in ohio. can i file married jointly for federal and maine state taxes and then have my wife file just her ohio taxes as married filing seperately? if we file jointly for ohio we are going to have to pay taxes and it does not seem right since she was only working there for a little bit.

I'm no tax expert, but I'd probably look into Filing jointly on federal and then file state return from both states, making the assumption you or your wife worked in maine. What you do as far as filing jointly is what you gotta do on your state. You won't have to pay taxes in ohio for anything made in maine.
