I just like to build computers... Blasted addiction.

$1500 budget

None the less, this is a gaming compy

For the CPU and Mobo I'm wanting to try my hand in the Sandy Bridge processors. So If you guys can sell me (as in make me purchase) one of the older models go for it.

GPU: 6950 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121416 $299.99

Case: NZXT Phantom http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146067
(I've read some good things about this case, and it looks spiffy) If you guys have a better one i'm all ears.

Mem: If'n I remember right the Intel CPU's use Tri-channel memory so I need http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231223 Is this good?

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 I like this PSU :p

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185

Keyboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823114009

I also need to get a monitor.

That should be everything. I’m currently in the planning process so lets get this done.

sandy bridge uses dual channel memory.

for your budget there is no reason to talk you out of sandy bridge. 2500K or 2600K.

keep in mind the motherboards are in short stock right now due to intel's recall. you almost might as well wait until the Z68 based boards come out in a couple months as it'll probably be a month before there's sufficient stock of 67 series boards.

do you need windows? don't forget to budget that (though you appear to have plenty of room).

i'd recommend a 60GB boot SSD.

if your budget can handle it a bigger SSD would be a nice upgrade

Do you have W7? (for now i am going to assume you do) Do you need a
motherboard
Monitor(lost my mind for a minute) (i also assume no for now)

okay here is my suggested Sandy Bridge build:

Case

RAM Sandy Bridge went back to dual channel RAM so tri-channel is not what you need. I would get two sets of these instead.

DVD/CD

HDD

PSU

GPU- Now your current one is fine but with that budget you can get the GTX 580

CPU

Motherboard

HSF

SSD

Keyboard was fine but not what i would really like, Case was fine i guess but not needed. I prefer the HAF series.

Total with your keyboard: 1587.88

Just realize sandy bridge is still not fully functional and you will probably have to wait until april to get it.

No, wait until Sandy Bridge has been sorted out in march or april then buy stuff, you might see a price drop on some items or a nice combo.

Looks good except that the mobo is crazy expensive. Here's an Intel DP67GB for $185. That's still kind expensive, but Sandy Bridge prices are really inflated right now as stocks dry up.

Yes if he waits for april he will have another ~$100 or so because of price drops and supply vs demand.
