I was wondering what your opinion was on Taurus handguns. They?re priced quite a bit cheaper than other handgun manufacturers and I?m wondering if the lower cost really reflects on the quality and reliability of there handguns.

I really wanted to spend no more than $400 and I was looking for an auto. 9mm or .40cal. It has to be very concealable as well.

Last weekend I rented a Glock 26 at the range and I really did like the feel of it but it went for $550 plus tax, I can get it on line for like $475 plus the costs involved with shipping and transfers costs etc. I would like something even smaller than this.

I plan on trying a few more yet I dont want to blow $200 renting handguns either.

Another pistol which also caught my eye was Springfield Armory Sub-Compact 3" XD ,I think I can get one for around 425.00.

Well here's the cheap Taurus pistol...Should I not even bother looking at something like this?...$255 bucks

everytime i go into the gun shop, they tell me to stray away from the Taurus models and show me something else. I trust the shop, but then I asked why they carry the brand if it was so bad. They have a few decent models, but it's like buying an eMachine versus an Alienware. Some people are looking for budget guns...

Meh. I'd take a Norinco over a Taurus... but you could do worse.. like a Llama.. but they're not my fave.

I used to own a Taurus 9mm about 8 years ago. I loved it. Not too heavy and not too light. It fit my hand perfectly (small hands here). It WAS my first handgun and it was very easy to use and I bought it for the CHL. Great gun. Not too bad on accuracy. Easy to shoot. Mine was a little rough in the slide no matter how much I worked and oiled it but nothing noticeable when it came to shot accuracy.

I would highly recommend it as a first gun for a woman to use and/or carry.

My roomate has a CZ 75 9mm and really likes it. I've shot about 100 rounds out of it and it feels pretty nice.

I had never heard bad stuff about Taurus. I had several of them and have no complaints.

All I have now is a Stainless steel .38 snub nose and it;s fine.

I had a few .380's several years ago. Decent guns, the bullets came out when you pulled the trigger. I think they ended up getting thrown off the Venice pier... those things happen.

Precisely what I came to post.

My next gun purchase will be an XD, probably in .45 GAP.

BTW where are you renting that you can go anywhere near $200 renting a "few" more guns?

The two ranges I've joined have had dirt cheap rentals - One was $5, the other was free (unless you wanted the full auto stuff in which case it was $15). You have to buy their ammo of course but even shooting your own gun you'd have to buy ammo & theirs usually isn't TOO badly priced.

I agree with this as well, however the Taurus 24/7 is pretty decent from what I hear.

I not sure they still have it but at one time Taurus had a Lifetime warranty. Me personally I would have no problem with owning a Taurus I think they are a good gun at a reasonable price.

It's a $42 rental package of a gun and that includes 50 rounds, range time and targets. But now that you mention that,I went and looked for there brochure and it did say that you can rent additional firearms for only the cost of the ammunition when you do this package.....that would save me a few bucks if I tried many out at one sitting.

Another intersting gun that I came across last night was the PT145 Millenium Pro ,yes another Taurus gun but it seems to have gotten many positive reviews and you get one for around $300 bucks
