TAT shows 40c, is this okay?

I hit about 42 with one core full load and a BT as well. My room is, however, probably 65-68 degrees, so if yours is hotter that would do it. Also, did you set the BT fan to run full speed? If it's plugged into the motherboard you might be able to set that in the BIOS - I did on mine on a DS3 board. It's plenty quiet at full speed.

Unless you purchase a fan controller the only way I know of that works well is the hardware monitor in your bios. Tat and Asus probe are the two tem monitors I use most. I use PC Wizard for more detailed info. What are your temps w/ orthos? and if you run TAT? I've heard it is not a good idea to run tat as a bench but for a fast heat-up to get an idea of your high tenps it is great. I think if you run the tat on both cores for a couple of minutes and stay below 65-70c you should be safe. Personally anything over 50 c Will cause me to find a better cooling solution. I'm running water so my temp are useless for comparison.

The C2D run warm and depending on the flatness of IHS this will have an impact on temps in a big way

50C is an awesome temp even on water and will depend alot on ambients..if you are using 50C as max temp underload on a C2D you are being very cautious

I would not expect true load temps on air to be 50C or lower even at stock settings ....


Prior to the death of my RD600...bios corrupted or something not from extreme voltages

I ram my e6600 @ 3500 with 1.52v and my max temps on TAT were in the 50s, coretemp max temp on P95 v251 blend for 20hrs was 55/56C

my ambients are around 24-26C, idled at 42/44(depending on my fan speeds)

Unfortunately all softwasre temps are not truly accurate....but from what I see on other boards it is not uncommon for people at 100% full dual core load to hit high60s and low 70s....is this safe I have noidea but if you are overclocking ..increased voltage and heat will shorten the cpu's life...how much is unknown

any overclocking is at increased voltage will shorten life of the cpu....
 
i have an antec tricool on for a case fan, i think i will switch that over to the BT since it does about 80cfm vs the 54 im getting on the stock BT fan.

Some HS do not necessarily get better cooling with increased airflow....some are max. for low flow fans so higher flow fan may or may not do better..if I recall the BT is made for lower cfm fans...first try turning the fan from push over the HS to pulling off HS..see if this helps

then try the higher cfm fan...I bet you will not see a big difference with the higher cfm fan
 
TAT and coretemp would be the only ones I'd trust. Speedfan and motherboard manufacturer utilities can go to hell, I want something that reads the temperature inside the die and not from inside the socket.
 
I've got my e6300 overclocked to 2.35ghz with TAT temps of 33C.

I've found that TAT gives pretty accurate readings....or at the very least, temps from which are usually the highest.
 
I have it oc'ed to 2.72 right now on stock volts, and its idle 28c after i changed the fan to the 79cfm tricool. I have speedfan 4.32, ill try that


the asus probe and TAT seem to read about 3c difference, asus being the lower temp.
 
So what are your load temps? I generally run orthos along with the graphics program "rthdribl" to heat up the vid card a bit. I'll monitor with nvidia on the grapics and tat in monitor mode and the Asus program to compare, This is the last run I did. Like I said, I'm on water and to say the least It is not your "normal" loop.
 
well im at 3.12ghz right now with asus tell me i have 1.34v on the core and hovering around 57c stable load, is that good?

Many boards have a "droop" Asus is notorius for it. Probe is accurate on that. Mine is set 1.4 in the bios, probe reads 1.34. It reads the same in PC Wizard. Your temps are ok. when you reach your highest stable overclock, lower your voltages as low as you can to decrease your temps as much as possible. I'm hoping to get a new board at the end of the week so I can speed this 6600 up as this board has a "wall" that can't be passed. 3.2 sounds good on the 6400, what board?
 
From what I recall seeing around the forums 3.2 is an average OC for stability with 6400, I look forward to seeing how you fare. The high temps you reach during testing are not normal running temps, so if you reach 60- 65 with orthos over an hour or so your safe. Here are the Intel specs sheets. The thermal specs for the 6400 I looked at was 61c. I also have a P4 551j 3.4. PrescHOTT! 72c. I had it running at 4.0 for months till recently it started crashing.:frown: Back to stock. 😱
