Tasty shakes/smoothies!

So now that I'm trying to be more diligent about eating more smaller meals instead of 3 big ones (or 2.5 as it used to be), I want some good recipes for shakes/smoothies.

I have a Magic Bullet at work and my coworkers are starting to use it too. I'm using a bit of milk, one serving of non-fat vanilla yogurt, ~1 scoop of ON double chocolate protein powder and then topping it off with the frozen 3-berry fruit that you can buy at Costco. It tastes great and doesn't even feel like I'm having a "protein shake"...I top it off with some Whole Food granola too.

I'm sure I can up the protein amount, but what do you guys do for a shake/smoothie? I figure it's 24-30g from the powder and then another ~10g from the yogurt and milk.

I have been doing 5-6 meals per day for about 5 weeks, along w/ intense workouts six days a week and its worked out great! For my protein drinks, I tend to keep it pretty simple. If the powder is vanilla, I will either mix with milk, berries, and ice. Or one of my favorites, is to go, Orange Juice, Ice, and the powder, its surprisingly good! I try to keep all the extras out, because for me its just extra calories. But, it sounds like your on the right track with keeping them tastey!

I just had....

1 scoop chocolate protein
1 banana
4 strawberries
1 egg
2/3 cup water

Hooray, salmonela!

1 Scoop Whey Gourmet Chochlate
1 Banada
2 Strawberries
20 or so blueberries
10 or so grapes
1 cup of water
6 ice cubes
2 cups of milk
1 package of banana and peaches low fat yogurt

I add a can of red bull in the morning with my post workout....Red bull + workout + vitamins + cold shower + EC = awake allllll day 🙂

RichardE, that looks like a giant shake, lol.

It is lol. I have a 1.5L blender, my roomates eyes always bulge when I sit down to the couch with it and just dig in, but man it is so good lol 🙂

lol that's awesome

My personal favorite is a Strawberry Blonde:

1 Scoop Vanilla protein powder, Pineapple juice, Non-Fat milk, 3 Strawberries, 1 scoop low-fat frozen yogurt, half a banana, and 2/3 crushed ice cubes. Its very yummy!

All i do is what is in the first post, really: I buy bulk frozen fruit like strawberries and put a cup of them in with a cup of skim milk and a scoop of protein. If it's strawberries I put in a couple teaspoons of sugar as well and blend it up. I often will take our highly ripened bananas and unpeel them (have to do that first) then put them in the freezer. These are sweet enough to not need sugar and also are much cheaper than strawberries or three-fruit. End up with about 28g of protein, 300 calories, and a drink that actually tastes very good.

I've been doing this for years. FOr a month it's been my breakfast each day, and ultimately I'll get tired of it and go back to dry cereal and then return to this in the future and do it again until I'm bored 🙂 Btw I'm having one right now 🙂

I have one of these for breakfast at least 5 days a week.

1 cup to 10 oz. skim milk or orange juice
1 Tbsp. flax seeds
2 Tbsp. steel cut oats
4 - 6 frozen strawberries
1 peach (when available)
1 banana
1 scoop ON 100% Whey Banana Cream
I like this one better with OJ, the milk gets a little to frothy with my blender.

1 cup to 10 oz. skim milk
1 Tbsp. flax seeds
2 Tbsp. steel cut oats
1 banana
about 2 Tbsp. peanut butter
1 scoop ON 100% Whey Double Chocolate

I bought a half pound of flax seeds and steel cut oats at Whole Foods, but I'm still not sure if I want to just toss them in there, even if I pulverize them first in the magic bullet. The flax just doesn't mix and the final texture is...not so hot.

I've got a Vita-Mix blender, so it grinds up pretty much anything I put in there. You can soak the seeds and oats in warm/hot water and they will probably soften up for easier blending.

The thicker texture of oats in the shake took some adjusting to, but I kept reminding myself that it's a complete meal that I can drink on the way to work.

Let me know if soaking works.

Jeez... are you supposed to make protein shakes this way? All I do is mix 2 scoops of whey with water, shake it up and chug it.

I guess I'm cheating a bit.
Buying the yogurt smoothies, then mixing half of that with a glass of 1% milk.
Makes a good shake.
