What I really don't like is simply that just because you don't agree with someone doesn't give you a right to threaten them. For all those who love to bash Muslims or Islam, this historically isn't what has happened. There were often many lively debates about religion (well atleast the Mid East, I don't know much about Bengali history). Either way - this attempting to muzzle people by Imams is CLEARLY itself creating problems. The Quran warns that the greatest threat is not people who outwardly deny ISlam - but those who are hypocrites. And the chauvanists male cultures are creating such problems.
2:8 And there are people who say "We do Believe in God and the Last Day," the while they do not really believe.
2:9 They would deceive God and those who have attained faith - the while they deceive none but themselves, and perceive it not
2:10 In their hearts is disease, and so God lets their disease increase; and grievous suffering awaits them because of their persistent lying
2:11 And when they are told, "Do not spread corruption on earth," they answer, "We are but improving things!"
2:12 Oh, verily, it is they, they who are spreading corruption - but they perceive it not!
Although this points to early Medina history when some Muslims called themselves Muslims but were really not. There is some good commentary and here it is: "As is always the case with Quranic allusions to contemporary or historaical events, the avove and the following verses have a general, timeless import inasmuch as they refer to all people who are prone to deceive themselves in order to evade a spiritual commitment"
I guarantee you that it has to be the Imams sitting in Mosques purposely trying to fan the flames. Anything that challanges their power - good or bad - is a threat that they must try to deal with. They hide behind the name of Islam - and if they , for any reason lose their "protection" tehn their actions come into question and their power diminished. But so as long as they can claim to represent Islam, and violently attack anything under the guise of "anti Islam" they gain a powerful shield to hide their questionable actions from scrutiny.
