taskbar messed up after screensaver been on a long time

i've got the newest nvidia drivers and win updates. I basically have to restart to get the icons in the taskbar & systray to show correctly. Also when I click on the start button (or new in vista, blue logo button) it's all blank- no programs are listed, not even the ones to restart. have to cntl-alt-del, choose restart.

if I instead go to a different user, they are ok. if I come back to the original user, the system hangs.

any ideas? i think it's a driver sort of issue?

Yes, it sounds like a driver problem. I've never encountered this because I don't use the screensaver. My monitor is set to shut off after being idle 20 minutes. You might want to give that a try as a temporary fix.

To ensure that nVidia is aware of the problem, I would file a bug report:

that's a good idea: turning off the monitor. I was just wondering if there was some hidden setting or new feature in vista that might be causing it.

I turned the screensaver off and have the monitor going off after 20 min. It's still doing the same thing.

any more ideas?
