Taskbar item grouping in XP

This may sound like a stupid request, but...
In XP, as you know, you can "group similar taskbar items" so that all IE windows, etc stay together. Also, the collapse so that you have one button that pops up a list of all the windows you have open. While I like the grouping, I find the collapsing to be annoying, as I now have an extra click to get to the window I want. I work with UNIX terminal sessions all day, and sometimes I like to have certain things open in each session, and then I can go right to the one I want, but with the collapsing it's more difficult.

SO...my question is, is there any way (registry or otherwise) to keep the grouping, but eliminate the collapsing? That way the buttons would stay together but not go into one big menu? I've checked around but not come up with much. Thanks!

I've read what you posted a couple times trying to follow you. What I think your requesting is that all IE taskbar items would be put 'together' but not collasped into one item. All notepad (for example) items would follow, but all grouped together.

In that case, I don't believe you can do what your asking, I've never seen such an option in XP (nor heard a request for it actually). The whole idea of grouping was to unclutter the taskbar when people had a zillion windows open. You can turn up the count before windows starts doing this in tweak ui, but it wont put like items together automatically (AFAIK).

Best,
Bill

p.s. Nice handle, what year you got?

Thanks for the response...
I'll have to check in TweakUI and see about upping the count. I know this sounds strange, but like I said, I like to keep things together, I just don't like them collapsing.

Actually, I'm between Vettes right now. I've had a '76 and a '95, but right now I have a BMW 328i. I would really like to get a bright yellow '03 or '04 though (of course, if I wait until '05, I could have a C6 🙂 )
