Taskbar Icons don't display in XP

I am using win XP pro and I noticed that some of the icons just don't display in the sask bar even when 'i set them to. For instance the vplume control icon never appears unless I go to sound in the control panel disable the icon and then enable it again. The same thing happens with programs but then the only way to see the icon is to use task manager to end that program and then restart it. I know about the hiding feature in XP and I set all icons to always show and then disabled highing anyway. I need some way to configure or force all the icons to apear all the time. Also sometimes if exlorer carshes in XP or any othrer Windows most of the icons again dissaper and I would like to know how I can activate them as well.

The icons are there hidden. Just click to expand them and you will see the icons.

Were do I click to expand them, I dissabled the hiding function and I no not have any boutton to click on the taskbar to show additional icons?
