Taskbar disappear

Hi, I have an old dell computer, and I just recently reformated it. I was doing the windows update, and I believe I did the service pack 2, and after I reset the computer's taskbar completely disappeared. I was wondering what the problem was, and how is this possible. Also is there a way of getting it back? This is nothing on the bottom of the screen, so it isnt hiding. I was wondering if anyone experienced this problem before.

I had the same problem. I had to uninstall service pack 2, and it worked fine, I also lost all of my desktop icons. I could get the taskbar back if I hit ctrl/alt/del (task manager) and logged myself off and then logged back in when sp2 was installed, but if I shut down and restarted the taskbar would disappear.

Sounds like explorer shut down. Explorer is the shell that displays desktop icons and the taskbar. You could try an alternative shell, but that really isn't a solution if sp2 is borking explorer. Personally, I just wouldn't download sp2. I haven't yet on this dell.
