Task Manager...strange senario

I have Windows XP Pro and suddenly my task manager isn't displaying correctly. Only the app screen is present and there are no tabs at the top. I can still select an application and end task oddly enough. The only way to exit out of it is to click the right click the icon on the taskbar next to the time display and close it.

I am considering a windows repair but if someone knows a fix without doing that it would be great...
 
it figures as soon as i post for some assistance i find the fix to the issue...i was unaware you could put the task manager in this format

i double clicked on the grey bar directly above the window that displays the app names and it opened back into full display
