Task Bar Invisible - Not Hidden

A user of mine brought me her brand new personal machine she had just bought from Best Buy. Weirdly enough... the task bar appears to be corrupt as it is invisible. The start menu button is there and functional. I can go into properties and set the task bar as hidden, lock/unlock, etc. No effect. In fact, the start menu button doesn't "hide" even when you set the task bar to auto-hide. Very strange. Has anyone seen this before?

-Brand new windows 7 machine.
-Start Menu there, task bar invisible.

Why doesn't she take it right back to Best Buy and have them fix it or exchange it?

I encountered this on my HP dm1z. It only happened when the screensaver kicked in. Upon resuming, the taskbar would be completely gone aside from the Start button--same situation you noted. I turned the screensaver off to avoid this and just had the monitor dim instead.

Apparently this isn't an uncommon problem if my Google search to figure out what was going on was any indication.

Just a thought - if you Restore Down, and use the scroll bar, does the Task Bar come into view?
