Both a worthy and attainable goal.

I hate exposing myself like this, it's such a noob question I can feel the heat already, but what's a TAS? Looks like fun, but totally clueless. Flame on.

No flames. TAS is a subset of TeAm Anandtech crunchers who coordinate themselves to help the general TeAm with different projects, usually monthly. The group (we ;)) have a website where we coordinate this, give each other grief and taunts and generally have a fun time spending far too much money on computing equipment.

No problem. if you really want to be flamed, we could possibly and reluctantly do it. ;) Usually we avoid flaming ...

As Jim said - check in on our home page, where the aims and purpose of TAS is described. In my opinion, the "having fun" is the most important part. And the stats ...

Just now, in the seti@home Gauntlet Race quite a few TAS-members are crunching: caferace, Coquito, Tom Philippart, salvorhardin, GenHoth, hymy, petrusbroder, ken_g6, Rebel Alliance, RudyToody - which is almost 30% of the Gauntlet team ...

One part of the fun are the races and trophies - so just hang on and you'll see and read about them. :D

Edit: added RudyToody, whom I had forgotten above: Sorry RT!
But I did then write
(and I have probably forgotten someone ...)

I definitely qualify in this dept. My curiosity was peaked when I saw the thread on the Christmas challenge, as I have been doing folding@home for the last few months, though I have been doing DC since the late 90's. I do a modest 11,000 ppd average "over there," but thought you might use my services for this "challenge," since they've got a couple of heavy hitters. Maybe an opportunity to get my feet wet, as I've got a few boxes I could put on the task. Cheers, MM

You are very welcome. I'll put some thought into the Christmas Race tomorrow - proposal for rules, teams etc...

Thanks, I'll look forward to it.

BTW, just a suggestion, but IMHO this link http://www.teamanandtech.net, or the text on that first page, should be in the sticky post at the top of the DC thread (~~~ Welcome to the Distributed Computing Forum ~~~ ). It's hard to find, otherwise. Finally figured out what the "S" stands for; d'oh.
