The science and methodology is different, but POEM is somewhat similar to Rosetta in that both projects are doing protein research to help cure diseases.

I am no longer crunching Aqua on my main machine. A friend asked me to fix his computer; it would barely boot. I put the hard drive in my computer and scanned it -- sure enough -- it's full of viruses.
In the mean time, the man (who can barely take care of himself) in the aprtment above mine had a problem with his drain. Instead of calling maintenance, he tried to take care of it himself. He flooded his apartment; it leaked through my ceiling down into my bedroom. It flooded my kitchen and my bathroom before I knew what was happening. Thank goodness it didn't get to my computers. I reported the problem to management. They fixed the leak and evicted the guy upstairs. There are 3 large "extractors" (squirril-cage blowers with heaters attached) in my apartment: one in the hall, one in the bathroom, and one in the bedroom. All this has happened in the last 3 days. I'm staying at my ex-wife's. I just checked my computers remotely, and the FX-60 motherboard is at 107 deg. F., and the Pentium D motherboard is 114 deg. F. That's all too warm, and I don't like it.
I just called the emergancy pager fot the manager. She called me back, and I told her that the carpet was dry when I checked it yesterday, and she said that it would be alright to turn off the extractors.
I'm going to go do that now.

So -- I went and turned everything off. They've also moved a large dehumidifier into the bedroom. It's now off too. Everything is dry; it's late Sunday night, and I have to pay for the electricity to keep all those things running.
I'm kind of irritated that they haven't tried to communicate with me more. It's over 90 deg. F. in that place, and my computers are still going strong.
It's close to freezing outside. Maybe the place will cool down some in the next few hours. I don't run the heat. Usually the heat from 3 computers running wide open is enough to ensure that it's warm enough to keep the pipes from freezing.
Hmmm. I'm a little manic, pissed off, and my zaprasidone hasn't kicked in yet. My favorite cousin died last week. The dentist that I was working for got in an accident and broke his pelvis. My apartment flooded.
I am so ready to step into next week and leave these problems behind.

I can appreciate the frustration this must have given you. Life is a net of big - sometimes smaller - frustrations, and yours were certainly bigger ... 🙁
I hope that all will be steightened out before this day (for me monday) is over and that it returns to normal.
Considering the electricity - shouldn't the house owner's insurance pick that up? You did not cause this and you did suffer damage ... check it out, it may give some money in return to you. 🙂

I don't run my heat either... but I have my windows and sliding glass door open in my place so that the heat doesn't get unbareable.... and it's freezing outside :shocked:
This race has been fantastic. I started off at number 2 in the TeAm and slipped to my current number 7. Well, it happens. I am rather impressed that I have moved up to number 17 in the world. The realisation struck me just now that there are 10 guys ahead of me that are NOT TeAm mates - THE REST ARE. Man that is impressive. Good going!!!
