I tried for 3.5 and only made it on one of mine (the other is 3.47). Couldn't get that last eerp out of Vcore... had to stop at 1.475

Good luck when you have time to play!

Cooling aside whats the most you think you'd put into the Vcore? I've got my quad at 3.6, it boots fine at 3.7 but fails quite a few WUs on BOINC and occasionally reboots. Temps don't get to high and Vcore is at right around 1.5..... I'm worried to go more, these CPUs aren't cheap.

I wouldn't take mine above 1.5 but that's my personal choice. You're right, they are expensive and I'm not going to risk it for now😉

MarkFW & Sis have much more experience than I do..perhaps they could comment too?

I was planning on stopping at 1.5V if my cooling had held up.

basically, I think it's OK to go a little higher if your temperatures are OK (I don't like Vcore >70.... actually, my system seems to start to flake out a little bit when I get to 68... read with CoreTemp), but once you've found your max speed, you need to then experiment with slightly lowering Vcore to find the minimum that is really required. I'm guessing for most Q6600s that will be pretty close to 1.5V unless you are using some exotic cooling solution.

My core temps dropped from 66C to 49C running SoB on all four cores:shocked:

I'd double-check that temperature biodic... that sounds more like something you'd get with a peltier or liquid nitrogen.

I recommend using CoreTemp for accurate core temperatures. Speedfan readings are way off.

Yeah, I use coretemp on my windows box but these are my linux boxes. I'm using lmsensors which was difficult to set up. I'll check on the web to see how accurate it is. I'm not using a dual boot system so I can't check with both OS's with the same hardware.

I did see a big drop though so I'm pleased about that😉

It is a shame how poor the Intel stock heat sinks are.

I'm glad you found one that's doing the job.

Both of the people that said they wanted my old PCs backed out (people at my work) so now I guess I'm stuck for a while. My house is going to end up looking like MarkFWs if I'm not careful.

😀

Bummer🙁

Oh...one more thing on the temps. I have auto speed on HSF disabled so they run full-speed. This was good for a few degrees drop too.

Sid, you will speed past me within 2 - 3 days ... please try to keep the dust down - it is so hard on the air filters in my computer room!

Great Job Everyone!

Thanks Peter!😎

... and the crunching goes on! Many TAS:ers are on the TSO-subteam in SoB - so keep an eye on that thread too - daily stats posted there! 😀

OK, my friends, I am going on a trip to Oman tomorrow. A welcome and surprising vacation ...
I'll try to post the stats Sunday or Monday - I have all the data with me.
Take care, crunch well and see you in cyberspace! 😀

Hi all,
I have arrived in the city of Salalah in Oman. The internet connection is quite slow - approx 2 Mbit/s or so but I still have a way to communicate.
I'll try to do the stats tomorrow if I can, OTOH the weather service predicts 25 degrees C, sunny, mild winds and a water temperature of 24 degrees C. 😀
I'll probably go diving ...

But there is always the very hot time around noon ... siesta time ... 🙂 😉

0F here! Watching the Giants play the packers! Man that has to be COLD!

Enjoy your time in the sun, don't spend it all on a computer!
