Edited Feb. 5: First week-end stats for the BOINC-month: 152 894 credits in 4 days! Very impressive! Crunch on!

The February poll for the TAS-project is closed.

The result:

6 votes for a BOINC-month (42.86%)

Winner: BOINC-month.

In February TAS members are invited to crunch any two BOINC-projects with the aim to improve our TeAm's standing in the "combined BOINC" -ranking list. We should be able to get to 11th rank at least ...

Please let me know (in the TAS-forum) which projects you crunch and I will try to do some stats ... ;)

Thanks rise!

BTW:
The starting numbers for TAS (as a mini team) are:
Total: 3 263 667 cobblestones, RAC: 30 303 cobblestones.
This should make it reasonable that TAS can produce 1 000 000 cobblestones in the next 28 days ... so crank it up, please!

Petrus, the nasty sergeant stands in front of the troops - the captain and 1:st officer watch from the window of the office...
"Get'em BOINC-managers set up properly, use the optimized application in Seti (if you crunch Seti),
choose the most efficient BOINC-client (as you see it) for Rosetta and the other projects,
remove dust from the hardware and trash-files from the OS, cut down the room temperature, put on a sweater if you are cold!
Crunch on! Report the projects you are crunching at TAS! Dismissed!"
Troopers salute, run to their crunchers and the noise of diligently working keyboards, vacuum cleaners, motorized screw drivers and power supplies is heard. The sergeant looks at the office and all three battle leaders do the  and :D. This will be a good campaign!

I'll crunch up to 10,000 points in ufluids first, then jump on SETI for 10,000 points and after that will probably hop on CPDN for 10,000 points.

Come on, Christian, green looks good ... but the green field is big. Will you have time for the CPDN-project? IIRC the WUs take a month or more to crunch ... and this is a short month. Oh, you have faster comps (a duallie) than I have ... :) I wish I had a few of those.

I think so, yes. I already have over 6,000 points in µfluids. SETI should be done within two weeks. Don't know if I'll get to 10k in CPDN, though. That largely depends on receiving a functional sulphur project and not a short one.

:)

OK, so the BOINC-month it is! I just pulled most of the fleet off of DPAD and will start out by running Rosetta and SZTAKI.

I just b0rged my dad's A64 3200+ Clawhammer into the Rosetta TeAm under my name, I don't know how often he leaves the box turned on but every bit helps!

Thanks! Yeah I've been busy at a new job these last few weeks and my neffing time on these forums as well as ta.net has been greatly reduced. But I'm still crunching!

SZTAKI ran out of WUs a couple hours ago. I am switching some boxes to SETI for the time being, I may try registering with another BOINC project in a few days.

Darn, lost yet another cruncher. My XP3200+ started making some scratchy noise during the night and I had to turn it off. I looked at it this morning: The ballbearing of the gfx fan is broken. It's Sunday. So I'll get a new gfx card on Monday. :( Bad times, bad times ...

Christian, is the graphics card really broken - burned? Does the comp boot into BIOS? That is not so hard on gfx-card and can do without fan as long as you do not start Windows.
Sometimes it helps to exchange the fan ... I have that experience, the noise was terrible when the fan broke down - I took a old CPU-fan (from the 486-era) which happend to fit OK and it helped - the card is still running. :)

No, the gfx card is fine. The problem is that I used an aftermarket cooler and fan for the card: GeForce Ti4200 Thermal Take . That fan has no outer rim, it's mounted with three screws right onto the copper HS. I just don't know any manufacturer/vendor who sells this kind of fan in that particular size. Also, all my older fans (486 and pre) don't fit because I can't mount them.

I was thinking of running the card without the fan, but I don't know how long it would survive, even without any gaming, just Windows. It's a dedicated cruncher.

Ah well, I guess I'll just grab a new fanless passively cooled card for some 15 ? and that's it. Only the two days of production loss are bad. :(

Here are the detailed stats for the BOINC-month.

In these early stats I have only included those who have produced credits in February. When more TAS-members contribute they will be added to the stats. If I have forgotten someone, please let me know and I will adjust the stats.

In the last 10 days of January Team Anandtech produced an average of 195 917 credits/day.
In the first 4 days of February Team Anandtech produced an average of 232 182 credits/day.
A large contribution to this increase is however Feb. 1 which was the day after a quite long outage and therefore that days production was extremely high (more the 300 K credits).

In the first 4 days TAS has produced 152 894 credits.
The TAS-members have increased their production quite a lot. That is visible by the increase in RAC by more than 6% (from 27 490 to 29 182 credits = 1 692 credits) which underestimates the increase in production because of the way the RAC is computed. The RAC is a bit low, since it takes about 8 - 10 days for the RAC to show the last days' production.

If the output of TAS will by typical, then TAS should at least contribute with 1 100 000 credits in February ... probably more ... :D

Adhesive paste may work;)

I have used it on a ti4299 and gf2mx400 64mb without issue. I don't remember the brand but its still holding :)
