tarzan's cheetah has died

RIP Cheetah, dead at 80 but not eaten by wolves. Have a cigar and a beer in heaven. I saw so many of those JW Tarzan and Jungle Jim movies on Sunday afternoons in the church basement during the 1960. 25 cents for a double program of action/adventure films. Lotsa of Ray Harryhausen flicks too.

RIP. 🙁

Cheetah suffered kidney failure during the week of December 19th and died Christmas Eve.
The chimpanzee was one of several appearing as the character Cheetah in the Tarzan movies.
His service ran from the 1932 to 1934, the Sanctuary reported

That picture terrifies me. Imagine if you woke up in the middle of the night to a strange noise and Cheetah was standing in the dark by your bed staring at you.

or worse you woke up with your face pushed down into a pillow and saw him behind you in the mirror.

I kind of miss watching the Tarzan movies that I got to see when I was a kid. The movie studios that made those films donated a lot of the mounts to a college that I go to on a field trip with students each year. Cheetah outlived Tarzan's lion by decades. (It was just a prop that they often used in the movies back then.) (After 8 years of going on this field trip, a student asked me to pose with the lion.)
