Targetting Fat loss in the torso\Ab region

I'm 5'9 and 195.

In the past 2-3 years I've committed myself to better diet and fitness. I started out at 230 and am now at 195. I look and feel alot better than I did before I started but I seem to be hovering in the 195ish region for the past few months. The majority of my excess fat is in the ab\torso region and wanted some opinions on how to target these areas to reduce the fat I have there.

Good question: I am 5'11" and was hovering around the 240 mark. I also have committed to get down to the 195/200 mark. So far, I'm around the 228 mark and have gone from a tight 38 waist to now a lose 36 waist. Most of my issue is also in the ab/torso region. I just figured that this is mostly due to my job, sitting at a desk most all day. I'm guessing that situps or other similar exercise would resovle our problems.

I sit alot at my job so I make a concerted effort to get up and walk around at least once an hour. I also stop and do a set of crunches and push ups 2-3 times each work day.

It is impossible to spot reduce fat! Have you ever seen anyone that had six pack with flabby arms and thunder thighs?

Thanks for the link. I do have weight training in my workout routine. I normally run 3-4 miles 3 times a week and strength train 2-3 times a week. Sometimes both on the same day depending on how I am feeling.

Perhaps others can suggest some exercises for me to work in as a change of pace.

If your situation allows for it, commuting by bicycle is one way to add activity to the daily routine. Some days I take the direct route, some days I burn 3000+ calories on long routes. Where I work, I don't have to worry about being super-presentable, so that helps... I don't have to keep a suit wrinkle-free en route, etc etc.

If you have a gym membership, maybe try out the rowing machines if they have them. That involves the whole body and I'd imagine it strengthens your core.

My work is a 25 minute car ride so bike wouldn't be an option. I metro to work and have to walk 5 blocks. I guess i could bike that but that's not a far distance. I have to be business casual so I'd likely have to shower after doing something like that and my work doesn't have the proper facilities for it.

My gym does have rowing machines so maybe I'll check into that.

No, but I think you are missing some of my point.

Just try to burn more/take in less calories. Try to increase muscle mass to increase your metabolic resting rate. Be patient it won't happen over night. Judging by the amount of weight you've lost you are probably at the point where it starts taking much more time.

I am in the same boat. Ive been working on my ab area for months now. My diet is the hardest thing to control sometimes. I just cant turn down my wifes cooking. I have noticed my top two abs starting to come out but the lowers are still hiding behind stews and cassaroles...

Have you met with a nutritionist\dietician?
Make sure your diet is balanced and healthy, then adopt a reasonable and balanced exercise routine (strength and cadio) and you should have all the tools you need.

edit: just read your other posts

You need to diet or sleep better. 5-7 exercise sessions a week is already pushing the limits of how much stress your body can handle. Standard bodybuilding protocol for cutting is no processed foods, low carb, high fat, and high protein.

No, but I think you are missing some of my point.

Your fitness routine sucks as it meshes catabolic and anabolic exercises. What that means is that you will more likely than not metabolize muscle into fat.

Sorry to be an asshole, but some derivative of what you're asking has been asked dozens of times before and could be easily found using the search function or using Google. Frankly, if you'd spend 30 seconds searching the internet you would have found that it doesn't work that way and that your routine is atrocious.

You want to bulk before you cut. It seems that he's just fat.
