I work at target as a cashier and today I was just kinda day dreaming and pondering my need for some speaker wire and wether I should buy some online or go to radio shack when a customer comes up and hands me a spool of speaker wire. My first thought is, "Woah we sell that?" immediately followed by "poor guy...he's gonna get screwed on the price." I ring it up and to my suprise it's only $6.98. So on my break i heard over to electronics to see if I wanna pick some up for myself, to find that target has some very reasonable prices on cables, especially compared electronics stores like bestbuy/circuitcity. I ended up getting 100ft of 16gauge speaker wire for $9 (regularly $10...i get a 10% discount). That's cheaper than I could have gotten it online factoring in shipping.

Anyway...just wanted to express my joy in seeing that at least one store doesnt mark up cables like they're gold...ok...so some of them are... ;-)

i needed a 3.5mm wire for a mp3 player and i went to Circuit City.. they were charging $25 bucks for a 3 ft because it was labeled "ipod compatible".

I went to Target, bought one for $3 that was 6ft...

True test would be their HDMI, DVI cables. Those are the ones you really get raped on.. I havent found anywhere locally that is even close to reasonable..

While some of their cables are still overpriced compared to monoprice (like $30 for a GE brand HDMI cable) they rape you less compared to other local shops like Best Buy and Circuit City, so if you feel you have to have it NOW, they're alright.

Funny, I was just at Target during lunch. I'll keep an eye out next time.
