Target B&M Mountain Bikes for $19.99 CRAZY!

I was in my local Target B&M and I was looking around and came across these mountain bikes in the toy department that were marked $19.99 (they had price range from 89.99 to 129.99). Sure there not Trek or anything but they have some cool shocks and they are pretty light weight. I bought 2 then some mofo bought the rest about 8 of em. I dunno if this was local (Michigan) but its worth a shot if your going to Target anyway. Oh yea.. they were mens and ladies sizes so if you been wanting a decent bike this is an insane price! 😀

Not such a good deal. I agree with the post above. Cheap shocks! This will kill you! Don't be stupid and buy a bike for 20 bucks! This is dangerous!

I think this is a good deal as long as you don't ride them in the mountains. 😀

OTFLMAO - On the floor laughing my a$$ off.

I agree this is a hot deal just for city riding and having a bike to go on campus...if it gets stolen, it was only $20!!

DO NOT try mountain biking on these department store bikes, though...probably too heavy and who knows who built it (prolly the 16 year old in the back room who has no experience with bikes).

Oh and the shocks on these bikes are pretty much worseless. I'm guessing after a few rainy and muddy rides your shocks will be nonexistent since they will just stick. But if someone thinks they look cool, then alright!

Like I stated in my above post.. it is *NOT* a TREK mountain bike I thought
you guys would use your best judgement on this.. for $20 bucks hell its great for around the neighborhood, for your kids, college.. but NOT climbing Pikes Peak..and its 80-100 bucks OFF!!! I didnt say BUY THIS MOUNTAIN BIKE AND RIDE PIKES PEAK! 😀

Calm down guys! It's not like the bike retails for $20. The bike retails for $90 to $130. Now I'm no mountain bike expert and have no idea how much Trek's go for, but on face value, this is a hot deal. This is 80% off folks!!!

Yah, I know, I know. A piece of $hit is a piece of $hit no matter the price... Remember, no one is forcing you to buy one.

Buy one and give it to the Salvation Army.

Not only will you get a warm fuzzy feeling all over, but you'll get a receipt for a tax deduction of around $400 (or whatever you want to claim).

Cheers,
-Dave

This is certainly a hot deal. Like others said, It's very tempting to buy one just for running short errands and what nots around town. For $20 it cost less the most bike locks do!!!!!

Unfortunately, I don't think my wife would understand the need for a $20 bike when I already have two ("real" mountain bikes). 🙂

$500 will get you into a middle of the line Trek. I paid about that in 98 or 99 for a middle line Trek Hybrid. Nice bike. They are expensive to fix though. My fiancee accidentally twisted the fork around when we were moving and broke the brake holder. The repair cost more than her whole bike did.
If your a serious biker or like to commute on a bike in the city the Trek is what you want. If your someone who throws the bike on the car and takes it to the bike path to pedal on, $20 is one hell of a deal!

These bikes are dangerous! They are assembled by Target employees who don't know anything about building a bike. My dad bought one of these and the seat fell off riding around the block for the first time. That really could have been painful! I convinced him to save his a** get an unsuspended Giant for around $300. I wouldn't trust my life with brakes that were assembled by these guys. No offense to any of you who may be Target employees, but you are not bike mechanics.

I don't know about you, but I don't trust ANYTHING that was assembled by someone else other than something I pay a good deal of money for and have a professional do. For $20 I'd go grab one of these things, disassemble it piece by piece to see if any of the parts are worth anything and maybe even swap out the generic stuff for something good. It's still going to be a good deal and you get a decent bike for less than $100. Just a thought.. 😀

I have never bought a bike from one of these retail chains, but I used to work at Toys 'R' Us and when a person bought a bike they got a new, boxed bike from the warehouse, not one of the pre-assembled bikes from the store floor. Is it different at Target?

I don't know about Target. I used to work for a retail chain way back and they used to have a guy come in periodically and assemble a bunch a bikes. The bike mechanic got paid by the bike (and not that much at that, maybe $7-10) so the faster he could assemble them the more he got paid. He was pretty quick and not all that careful.

When he was done they used to hang the bikes in the back in the warehouse. We sold the bikes either assembled or in a box (a fee was tacked to the final price if the customer purchased it assembled).

Its Hot because you can resell them to people and double or triple your money, I'll bet the guy that bought eight of them resold them, or they make great gifts too. checking my local target tommorrow
(don't expect to find any but what the hay). Great Post,
Thanks Johnw00

I work at walmart and we have two guys that all they do is assemble bikes and computer desks/furniture. They were trained by the factory and I know they do one heck of a good job assembling the bikes!

well, i got plenty of people that built their own bikes and we all hang out at the skatepark (we'll upgrade 'em and donate em to toys for tots next christmas). i think it's hot, i'm sure it's not in my area, that's how hot i think it is

Well... I just got back from 2 Targets to no avail. Most of the adult bikes were priced at $119.99. Pricing error? There was a guy at one store at the entrance pulling away in a truck that was PACKED with boxes that looked like bikes, but I didn't get a good look, and I didn't see any tags or isles that looked like they had had items on them that were gone, so who knows. One thing is for sure... A make/model/SKU would be very helpful... if indeed this deal really exists. Also, it appears that all of the bikes that Target sells are pre-assembled.

Target employees DO NOT assemble the bikes. They have someone come in about once a week, twice during the holidays, to put the bikes together.

Sheesh everyone's a critic! Last time I checked 20.00 for a bike was a great deal. Now all we need is a sku or UPC so we can check availability...
