Tape trick not working on Brother MFC-7840W.

Hi,

I have a Brother MFC-7840W and put tape on the toner in order to extend the life of the cartridge. The printer was printing perfectly until it suddenly stopped today. The printer had been displaying low toner for about two months and now it displays "Toner Life End." I got 1679 pages out of the starter toner, so far. It still printed perfectly, and I think I could get more life out of this toner.

I also have a Brother MFC-7220 and that one lets me print until the pages look kind of dark and I can no longer use it because of this darkness. This is with the tape trick, btw.

Did you take out the toner cartridge and give it the "left to right to left" shake ?

That is the standard recommended procedure before you install a new cartridge and sometimes works on an empty one.

Thanks a lot for your help. I tried shaking the toner several times. I finally gave in and put a new toner cartridge inside. I went for the TN-360. I hope it lasts 3000 pages, or so. Thanks again.
