Anyone here know how to work on a VHS VCR? It won't eject on it's own (a part has come off). I've opened it up and looked quite a bit, but can't find a release to be able to move the mechanism myself to get the tape out.

Hmmmmm... My dads Betamax has a tendency to do this (don't laugh... We have hundreds of bought Beta tapes which are not really replaceable). You really have to find the mechanism that ejects the tape, the mechanism that takes the tape to the videoheads is not as important - you can get the tape out of that mechanism by hand, just lift it out. Next you have to get the buggar to eject the tape. Again try this with a powered machine, otherwise find the main motor that operates the loader and use your hands and/or scredrivers and what not to operate the mechanism.

thraxes, thank you but you're telling me to do things that I'm asking how to do. As mentioned, I've already looked for how to release the tape. Also I mentioned that the mechanism on mine won't move either.

No it's not 'Pr0n'.

If you can post a picture of your VCR internals, someone can probably dredge up some past nightmare from memory and help you out.

My dad fixed those and other electronics for a living. Unfortunately I don't live with him anymore otherwise I'd ask him right now for you.

Hmmm that is just it Slickone, each machine is different so all i can give you is an outline what to do. You have to figure the details out for yourself as I can't help you there - not even if you gave me pix :( I'd have to have the machine in front of me to really see what needs to be done. I can now get a stuck tape out of the sony betamax in under 5 minutes but the first time fiddled for almost an hour to find out how and where to apply the screwdriver - was also very carefull as those machines are tough to come by these days ;)

Slickone, don't worry, we understand if there is pr0n stuck in there. One tip: Record over it

Sure, you'll lose valuble pass-time, but at least your parents won't be mad :p

Run to the rooftop of a 3-4 story building with vcr in hand. Toss vcr over edge with "stuck tape" inside. If done correctly, the vcr will break around "stuck tape", leaving the tape unscathed. ymmv.
