Tape Drives... remember them???

anyone know where i could find info on the history of TAPE drives??? its like no one ever bothered to make a webpage about them... thanks!

They are better off forgotten 😉

Tape is still used for backup and mainframe type beasts. I remember PC's with audio cassette tape drives! I played blackjack on the TRaSh-80 at my pa's company from one. In fact, I had a bitchin' Starpath adapter cartridge for my Atari 2600 which played advanced games off tape.

Its like this, high end tape drive are good but expensive, low end are cheap and unreliable..

Low end like the good old Iomega 250 Insider or Colorado 250/350 (highest failure rate)

If you're trying low end drive, better off using CD Recorders

High end are very reliable but expensive (DLT, SDLT)

thanks. but what i need to find out is the evolution of the tape storage system. like from 2 foot diameter reels to 4x4x1 inch cartridges. I've spent a couple hours trying to find more info on that sort stuff... and i didn't find much if anything useful at all!
