Hello all,

I have the above drive. It takes 6 DDS-2 tapes. I have read that the tape configuration should be 5 DDS-2 tapes and 1 cleaning tape. However, I am not sure what I need to do to get the drive to use the cleaning tape. Right now I have 5 weekly backups scheduled(I will change the magazine once a week). Will the cleaning tape be automatically used or do I need to schedule a 6th backup? Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, put a cleaning tape in the magazine. In the removable storage area of computer management, you need to tell tell it that there is a cleaning tape, and which slot it is in. If you get it right, when you put the magazine in, it will pull out each tape to ID them. The last thing it will do is pull out the tape in the slot you specified as having a cleaning tape, and if it is, it will use it.

Trevor,

Thanks a lot for the response.

I checked the removable storage of computer management and did find the cleaning tape just as you described. However, I was not able to schedule a cleaning to occur. I was only able to start one manually.

Is there a way to schedule the cleaning to occur once a week? That way I won't have to remember to execute the cleaning before/after/during the weekly back up schedule.
