Tanning does NOT make you more attractive.

if you enjoy having a tan, go for it

personally, I think guys who look like they've been inside playing D&D all day are hot, but that's just me... I know I have weird tastes 😛

I agree. There is nothing wrong with someone getting a tan, geez. Actually the op sounds like a complete idiot. Next he'll be saying don't go outside in the sun.

There is some truth in tanning to reduce the chances of getting burned while on vacation but in terms of aesthetic purposes, light tan is okay.. those fake and bakes have really wrinkly skin...

Depends on the person. Given that I'm an Irish, British, Scottish, French and German mix, the best tan I'll get will be just enough to make me look normal.

Lol on that note, I generally like to drive with the windows down and 1 arm on the windowsill when the weather's nice (ie: now), so last year I ended up with one tan arm and on pasty arm.

I spent a good amount of time in the sun as a kid. Only recently though have I been religious about applying my sunscreen (I'm 21 now). It probably started after someone showed me UV pictures of sun damage.

A light amount of tanning can be nice, the problem is too many girls don't know the concept of light tanning. And like Accipiter is hammering away at, it hits the tanning fanatics extremely hard in their late 20's/early 30's. All those age spots/liver spots/whatever on their upper chest are just gross, and their faces get very leathery by their early 40's, if not sooner.

And FWIW I *really* like the pale look on some girls.

Girls with the nick name "raisin lady" in a couple years just make me want them more. A girl I used to know why she was getting "freckles" after tanning 3 days a week for 2 years.

I'm hispanic and I don't like tanning. I'm fairly light skin and I don't see why so many people I know HATE LOOKING WHITE. Now days, tanning is as common for some people as to get a haircut, or get their nails done!

LOL, I'd rather have a pasty white ghost. I'm always quick to compliment a fake tan. "Nice fake tan." gets me into plenty of trouble 🙂

It is generally agreed around these parts that the op IS an idiot. Hang around and his many whiny rants will quickly demonstrate this beyond all reasonable doubt.

Waste of money, time, and energy.

Going to the beach is a waste of time, money and energy? :Q

I thought it was a great place to get some light exercise in (get a good swim in, bodysurf, throw a rugby ball aroound/play beach cricket, go for a run on the sand), see lots of hawt chicks in extremely limited amounts of clothing, and catch up with friends...

When I was in 8th grade, I got a lot of crap for not being tanned. I live in San Diego, right next to the beach, the sun is shining 24/7, and I am white and red. More red than white, I tried tanning, but it doesn't work. I've just accepted, that there's no point in trying to get something, that wouldn't be me anyway. And besides, I am a Scot, Dane, and German, DO I LOOK LIKE I AM SUPPOSED TO TAN, ASSHOLE??

Anyways, I still get a lot of crap about it, but I find that girls care more about the muscles than the tan lines. That, and when you take off a shirt, people aren't blinded by your hidden whiteness. For me, its obvious.

However, I have no problem with chickies who tan, I think they look hot, sometimes. Sometimes chicks naturally tan. The girl I like (oooooo) has a tan, and she doesn't look wrinkled or like a brown pumpkin. So I think we should keep it in perspective.

agreed.

I just sat around on Ft. DeSoto beach for a couple of hours with friends and a couple of kids from Chicago I know that are down for a vacation. One of them is a very close friend's cousin, and we all lost it when they basically equated beach with snow, and tried to have a sandfight in the water. They all got run out of the water onto the shore and will probably be going home with scars; seashells can do some effin damage when you throw them in clumps of mud 😛

What was I talking about? Oh, yeah, I got a nice tan. Thread hijack FTW!

I'm surprised there aren't more people here concerned about getting skin cancer.

Just how much do you have to tan to significantly increase your risk of skin cancer, anyway?
