Tamron to Offer Alternative to Canon EFS 10-22

For those of you looking to buy the Canon EFS 10-22, there is a chance this will debut for less.

Tamron developing 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5

I only buy Canon lenses though.

On the wide end, I really can't afford Canon or Nikon glass. The new Nikon 14-24 would be my ideal lens, but I'll probably settle on a good copy of a Sigma 15-30 simply because it's $250 vs. $1600.

True, I won't get the corner-to-corner sharpness of the Nikon, nor will I get the low-light performance, and I'll have to deal with a little more barrel distortion...

Tamron is coming out with an optically stabilized 28-300mm zoom; street price should be under $700.

The Tokina 12-24 is, to me, priceless (nikon version). You won't be disappointed if you go that route, jpeyton.

True, the Tokina 12-24 is the best alternative at present to the EFS 10-22. You lose 2mm on the wide end but gain a constant F4. It's also built like a tank so I hear.

true and true. great color saturation as well. only drawbacks are a clumsy clutch used to switch between AF and MF (no MF overide in AF mode) and a noisy AF motor.

i'm actually very interested in the tokina 11-16 f/2.8. i guess it's not quite an alternative, but you can pair it with one of the many 17/18-55 2.8 lenses and a 50-135/150 f/2.8 and have some pretty good coverage

Any idea when this lens is supposed to come out?

I want a wide-angle lens, but if this comes out fairly soon, I may wait for it.

Though, these guys don't expect it any time this year.
