Tamron SP 24-70 2.8 Holds Up Against Canon/Nikon/Sony equivalents?

Dpreview has nothing but good to say and say it's on the same levels of the Canon 2.8 that doesn't have IS.

As a Sony A99 owner there is finally something worth considering other than the CZ 24-70--although I wish the Sony version would be cheaper than the Canon/Nikon versions since there's no VC/IS on there.

Yes it's quite an impressive lens. It's even smaller than the Nikon offering (can't speak to other brands as I don't follow them). I have the Nikon, but I might pick up the tamron at some point for a good travel walk around lens that is smaller as well as less expensive so I don't have to worry as much about accidents!

I'll probably get one too, any filter recommendations? The thing is a beast at 82mm.

An excellent lens that price well within the reach of most enthusiast. However, I do not think I will trade in my 24-105L even those it is 1 stop slower.
