im really new to photography and was wondering if you could give me tips.

i'll be taking photos for a friend at an engagement party.... n i dont wanna walk around with bags of lense. i need to be able to shoot up close as well as far away. is this Tamron 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 from amazon a good, ideal multi-purpose lense?

im using a canon xti with the default 18-55mm now. for zoom, i was thinkning of getting the 300mm from canon with IS for about $550. but 550 is soooo much more than 349 with the tamron.

also what does f 3.5-6.3 means?
and Aspherical? i thought all lense are symmetrical... obviously, im clueless.

thanks!

If you order it, I'd get it directly from BeachCamera.com. Amazon might charge you shipping. http://www.beachcamera.com/sho...spx?sku=TM28300XRDIEOS
f/3.5-5.6 is the maximum aperture size. It's kind of slow and you'd have a hard time using it indoors, but outdoors, that lens would be fine.
IIRC, aspherical means that the lens elements are not circles, but elliptical in nature.
Some reviews of that lens: http://www.fredmiranda.com/rev...7&sort=7&cat=43&page=2

I don't know about that lens though. I have the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and the Tamron 17-35 f/2.8-4 for my Rebel XT, which are both Di lenses (can be used with 35mm sized sensors and/or Canon film SLRs) and have performed spectacularly.

Thanks for a good laugh. I never thought of it that way and it was quite hilarious that you thought of it that way.

Anyway, instead of trying to get fastfix answers, I think you need to learn a few basics about photography. Try the Digital Photography Resource Thread.
Oh and I think you'd be better off with 18-200mm as it provides far wider angle.

Quick tip: To see photos that every day (ie. non-professional) owners of a lens have shot, head over the Flickr and use this context to search for images via tags:

flickr.com/photos/tags/manufacturerlowhighmm/

So to find photos taken with the Tamron 28-300mm, search using this URL:
