Wow, that is a pretty good deal. This lens looks like a good performer, given its limitations (aperture and extreme zoom range). There is lots of barrel distortion at 18mm, which is to be expected, but that is correctable. A bit of chromatic aberration, but that is also correctable somewhat, and it's not overwhelming to begin with. And the sharpness is not bad at all for a lens of this zoom range. I think this would be a great upgrade from a kit lens at this price!

I've had a lot of problems with focussing with this lens on my Pentax K10D, though the K10D isn't well known for focusing well.

This is just a crappy lens, but the price is right. The VR lenses such as 18-105mm from Nikon are much better than this.

And the Nikon VR lenses are like 3-4x the price. I'd love one, but will probably start with one of these in the short term.
