I remember her crazy over applied makeup, I remember the tears, I remember the horrible singing and strange stage presence when on TV.
I had no idea she was such a complicated person. Good short read right here.

Seeing the movie later today and been reading a bit a bout their history which I only knew superficially.

Yeah read that this morning. I never knew that about her. It was not exactly a well publicized fact.

Pretty cool, not her husband, but her processing and showing empathy at that level.

There was I think a couple (maybe more) of good You're Wrong About episodes about the entirety of that situation.

Oh there's a movie about it? Oh, Jessica Chastain, bleh, no thanks. Her acting is not good, and not really interested in them trying to frame Tammy Faye as some complicated person (I don't think she was, even if the issues around her were complex, I think she was a pretty simple woman - not an insult, I just don't think she personally was that complex...which honestly maybe Chastain will actually be a good fit then). She wasn't all bad, but she absolutely was not fully supportive of gays. She does deserve some credit, like meeting gay persons dying of AIDS, especially considering the mindset of conservatives at the time. But there's plenty else to not be happy with her in regards to.

WTF, Andrew Garfield is playing Jim? And directed by Michael Showalter?!? Ok, now I'm actually interested.

I'm not sure its that simple. Seems to me more that her conservative Christian victimhood complex, coupled with her drag queen makeup helped her connect with the very real victimhood that gay people have been going through. Which, hey, that's not all bad, but its not like she was super outspoken supporter of gay rights either.

Plus she demonized Jessica Hahn for being raped by her repulsive husband and his cronies.

Most of the conditioning we experience in life was inculcated to make us be good. The presumptive good of those who conditioned us can be broad spectrum and include things that are good and not so good. In this way you can find people who support Trumps hideous attempted overthrow of the government who are otherwise generous and decent to their neighbors or are dangerously fanatically religious and treat dogs like family. Similarly there are left wing liberals and right wing nut cases who may also happen to be gay.
