So, when the hell did gyms become PC libraries with juice bars? Do these shorts make me look fat? Maybe I should buy new work out clothes, I don't want to offend anybody. :hmm:

I'm probably overly sensitive because I work out at a university gym full of frat boys. That dude in the OP had no business grunting. If you need to grunt to push out the last couple reps of a tough exercise like squats, deadlifts, benchpress, etc..., then by all means, go ahead.

It's the morons like the guy in that video who grunt as loud as possible during every rep of every set they do that piss me off. I saw a guy grunting while doing calf raises once. Really dude? Really?

I've probably exhaled sharply at one time or another during calf raises, resulting in a grunt.

Are you a metro?

The whole point of going to the gym is to perform repetitive motions with arms and sweat?

Do you go to the gym to pose? I hate posers at the gym.

As long as someone's workout isn't affecting mine, I really don't give a shit what they do.

Sorry, I'm an old geezer. When I did most of my training, gyms still had boxing rings in them. :D

Planet Fitness has this "grunt alarm" thing that goes off every time someone grunts really loudly. Apparently this was his third time or something, so he got told to go. And then threw a bitch fit.

Come on guys, TallBill is not getting called out, it's a joke. :p

My gosh...

/facepalm

You thought the callout comments were serious? What's wrong with you?

Thats a bullshit ass alarm. Though the really loud grunters are really annoying, I laugh at them, its kinda like an alarm.

Its especially funny at university gym lol. But that guy should have know he signed up for that crap, if he didnt like it then he shouldnt have signed up. Maybe the guy that talked him into a contract told him it wouldnt be a big deal, and that could be the closest gym to him. Its a bitch having to drive more than a few miles out of your way to goto the gym.

Every pick up 500 lbs? There isn't always a conscious decision to grunt.

didn't say "don't grunt" just said don't be a loud grunter. we know you are lifting a lot. you don't need to draw attention to yourself.

(not you in particular, was speaking, in general)

Grunt alarm? That's fucking hilarious. Seems like an immediate red flag for anyone looking for a gym with a clientele who are serious about fitness. That guy should have done a bit more research before signing up there. Only a dick would throw a hissy fit over it like that though.

throwing weights down at the end of a set.

I hope you don't throw dumbells around after a set. I find that annoying, no respect for the equipment, especially if the plates and bar are separate; they can get loose. Dumbells that are a solid piece I don't mind as much, but still it's unnecessary.

Yes ;)

Alright, you wanna be a douche about it go ahead. Make sure when you get spoken to about it at the gym, because you can't control the noises coming out of your mouth, that you wreck a few pieces of equipment and throw a few garbage cans around so you can get attention during your exit too.

Relax there mosh. There are people who make noise because they're assholes trying to draw attention to themselves, and there are people who make noise as a result of their exercise.

Of course, that's what different gyms are for. If you went to a Curves (or apparently a Planet Fitness), you wouldn't expect to see too many powerlifters. Conversely, at many other gyms, its acceptable.

You don't see me trying to get the middle aged women gabbing it up on the equipment not actually working out scolded or kicked out. Everyone has their own reason for being in the gym.

I was all relaxed until I was called a wise and beautiful woman. : /

I didn't say "no sounds at all". I realize people let out grunts upon exertion. I was speaking about LOUD GRUNTS. There is an acceptable volume, after that I think you are being unreasonable.

Not much of a deadlifter, are you? Or olympic lifter for that matter.

I agree that in general you should avoid unnecessary throwing of equipment - however, there's really no soft, quiet, gentle way to put down some of the big barbell lifts. Even if you lower the weight relatively slow & use bumper plates, its gonna make some noise - and at the average "health club" garner scorn from the preacher curl crowd.

Haha, I've been saying that about assumptions for a while now. Anyways, I'm not at the gym to please other people in the manner in which I work out.

Yup, like I mentioned earlier, as long as its not affecting my workout its no big deal. I really only get pissed at people that put plates back in wrong spots or don't unrack their plates because it does affect my workout.

My gym has solid db's and a padded flooring. Fuck putting down the weights gently, I'd actually be risking injury.
