tall people (6'+) and cars

I've been looking at a lot of cars lately and I've noticed that even the biggest of cars don't have a lot of legroom, and I'm not even that tall.

I've sat in the driver seat of the Expedition, Envoy, Highlander, Altima, Avalon, Accord, Camry, BMW 3/5 series, Maxima and in the roomiest of these cars, I'm just about comfortable. While wearing sandals. Add in a decent pair of shoes and I'm cramped again.

So how do those of you who are really tall get by in the automotive world? Sometimes it feels like the world is built for little people.

Why do you think I'll barely ever drive a car anymore?

That's of course why I've got a truck... all the legroom I want, and of course I'll never worry about hitting my bigass head :)

I'm 6'2" and I survive by putting the seat into the farthest position from the wheel. The only cars I've had experience driving in the list are the Accord and Camry. The Camry is mine and I don't have any problems with room. I've also driven a Cavalier and a Jetta (two rather small cars) and I put the seat in the farthest position and I'm fine.

That's why I drive a 1967 Peterbilt conventional to work every day. Plenty of leg and head room.

I'm 6'2, & found the legroom in my Accord coupe to be quite adequate. Especially on the passenger side, the few times I rode in the passenger seat I was amazed at the legroom.

I dunno about the sedans, but the coupes have plenty of legroom for me.

I'm 6' 3", and drive a VW Passat.

Leg room is pretty good unless you're trying to stretch out to take a nap.

Wow, I see a few of the tall guys with older accords are happy. Yeah I used to drive an 89 accord and the legroom was great, I could lounge around in the car while driving. :D Funny thing is, my parents just got a 2k2 accord and I think it actually has less legroom than my old accord. Same story for the 03s.

Then I wrecked the car and I'm driving this corolla now that has nonexistent legroom.

I think the new Altimas are the best out of all the new cars I've looked at. Once they update the interior, I may have to get one. Either that or another 89 accord.

My 6'7" friend had a custom Volvo made, and another friend (6'6") somehow fits in a Saturn.

At 6'7" I barely fit in my 02 Altima with the seat all the way back and reclining nicely. But it's the most comfortable of all the sedans I've tried. The problem for me in all of those was the giant console in the middle that got in the way for my knee. The Altima's was the most recessed console, so I fit the best into that one. I could have bought a truck, but I didn't want one. :)

I drive a 98 cavalier and my 6'5" friend fits in it, but barely, his knees rest against the dash. He tried to get into a corvette a friend of my dad's owns and he couldn't do it. :Q

damn jfur.. you're huge

Yes, each of my huge, asymmetrical breasts needs its own vehicle ;) HOw on earth could you misread the original paragraph. How can I be huge and fit in a Celica? I am 5'8" and my head bumps the ceiling.

I tried to get into a Corvette at the dealership, and I couldn't even get into the convertible version - couldn't put my legs all the way and slide down to the seat :Q

I don't really remember having any trouble getting into a Corvette but I was so excited that I really didn't look for faults. You try driving a Corvette when you're 17. One of the best experiences of my life. :D

I am 6'4" and my dad is the same, but he has shorter legs and a longer upper body. I remember several years ago he was looking at buying a $30-35K sedan and had a hard time finding one that he could comfortably sit in. We both drive Maximas nowadays (I have a 2001 SE and he has a '96 GLE), which seem to work well for tall folk.

This is a problem I've had to deal with the last four years that I've been driving. I'm 6'5" and I drive a Cavalier. For the last few years, I've had the seat just pushed back as far as it would go, but over the summer, I finally had had enough of my knees rubbing against the dashboard, so I unbolted the driver's seat and just moved the entire seat back about 3 inches. I'm still on the last setting for the seat, but there's enough room that I can sit fairly comfortably. In doing so, though, I effectively took away all functionality of the left rear seat. Oh, well. No one ever sits there anyway, since the seat was broken and leaned backwards (while doing the previous modification, I also switched the driver and passenger side seats).

I can't wait until I graduate and (hopefully) get a job that pays enough so that I can afford a truck or something. I'm tired of being crammed in my "clown car."
