anyone done it?

I want to remove a few badges on my xterra and plastidip one or two, and potentially move one.

I hate the badges on the back of the truck...

I am thinking about black plastidips the nissan emblem and moving near where the XTERRA badge is now and yanking the xterra badge and the dealer stuff


I havent ever tried to put badges back on though

and plastidip the front nissan badge, remove the xterra stickers on the rack and the nissan one up front if I can get it off

I've never put badges back on, but dental floss/fishing line and a hair dryer takes them off no problem.

Follow with some goo gone and then polish/wax and it looks like it came that way (depending on the condition of the paint).

No idea what plastidip is, but to debadge (assuming it's just stuck on there), you can heat the area with a hairdryer then take floss and "cut" the badge off. There will be some stick residue so you will need to use something like Goo-gone to clean up.

The Nissan emblem might have 2 prongs that go into holes in the trunk's sheet metal. If you remove this, you will need to patch those up somehow.

yeah I figured my heat gun + floss would remove them alright

mostly worried about getting the one back on.....but confirmation that I wasnt going to ruin anything removing them that way is good

This, did it on my Avalanche, no shiny things on it now. If you wait til summer, you can do it w/out a hair dryer... If you live in a hot enough area. Just get a chair to sit and it takes a bit of elbow grease to get the remaining residue off.

Depending on the age, color, and storage of the car, you might want to consider how faded the paint may be. If the emblems come off, you might find darker paint underneath, and you may find it obvious.

As for plastidip, it's a common thing to use in the RX-7 world as it's as close a restoration product for some of the interior trim as anything. Prep is the key as that stuff will crinkle on you like nothing else.

As far as badge removal, as others have suggested...it's easy.

Related question - what about sticker-type badges rather than the stick-out metallic looking ones? My recently-bought used car has a dealership sticker on the back that I wouldn't mind getting rid of, but I don't want to just pick at it.

Is that a heat gun + goo gone job as well?

They sell trim glue at auto parts stores like Autozone if you want to stick stuff back on. IIRC they have one that is a hard glue and another like an adhesive caulk.

I wouldn't think heat would be needed... pick at it + goo gone. Let the gg sit for a few minutes then take a rag/towell and rub it off fast and furious. That took off all the residue left by a few parking stickers on my car.

I hate badges on my cars. In the group of people I run with, I am the car nut. I’m always being asked about what car to buy or what is the best car, etc. etc. Too often people will just copy the car I own on the belief that this must be a great car.

It is also beneficial should you get a ticket. If the police officer writes down one make/model and it was actually something totally different, that could be grounds for getting out of a ticket.

I also don’t like advertising for Chevrolet, Honda, or whatever. If the car manufacturer wants me to drive around advertising their car, then they either need to pay me or the badges come off.

I am a big fan of plasti dip. Tape off, spray a few coats. Presto.


I especially like to use it on scratched black plastic interior pieces on my G35. The previous owner made the steering wheel and other oft used plastic pieces look really scratched.

Just remember to use multiple thick coats. Kid I knew did his rims in dip.


unless you need to move a decal your better off taping off vs removing. Few strips of tape and your half way done.

I did it with my MX-5. The back-end was far too busy for my taste.

Nothing more than a hair dryer, some fishing line, and once it's off, all it needs is some soapy car wash water to clean up the residue.

Be warned though, that some badges, particularly larger, marque badges are held on with small pins or bolts, and that removing them will leave a couple small but noticeable holes where the logo was.

Depends on the sticker. Heat will definitely help. I used to work at a used car dealer and we used heat and a razor, but I only recommend this if you know what you're doing. It's not hard, but if you're not careful, you could nick the paint.

Those stickers have some pretty good glue on them so you could pick away at it, but chances are it'll probably break on you and you'll just get frustrated.

If you get hold of some 3M red body tape you can affix it to the back of your badge, cut away the excess and then stick it on and it will never come off until you go after it with fishing line again. Very similar stuff to what manufacturers use. Comes in multiple thicknesses. I got my roll on EBay. Pretty much 1000 uses for double stick rubber tape on a car.

This is basically what I've done in the past to remove the metal like badges.

Hair dryer long enough will loosen it up.

You can use regular 3M double sided tape too

i removed mines, only to find my bumper was cleared over the emblems, so i plasti dip them black and installed with 3m red tape.

That stuff is STRONG! I dont know how well the plastic dip will hold tho. I made like 9 coats of that stuff.

I like the texture it had. Not silk smooth or primer rough.

Its durable if its not chunked. If you chunk a section off respray so moisture doesnt get under it.

Read reports on the internets that it will last years. Im a season in on my G

Good thing 3m tape didnt exist in John Hughes high school.
