Deal ends today. I'm not a big gamer, but an endless 'puter tinkerer.

Yes, I KNOW the 7600 GS is not a high end card at all, but I thought of this as trying out SLI for $100 AR just to see where that takes me, performance wise.

Any thoughts?

Rabid opinions?

Vid card jihad?

I wouldn't recommend it unless you are just dying to do the SLI thing.

Here's a fun comparision guide at THG Link You can compare various cards versus the 7600GS SLI combo. I input a 7900GS for comparison because that is what I bought cheaply a few weeks ago and is on sale again. link 2

Anyway, something to think about. :)

Not worth it, even if it's just for tinkering around with. The total price of both cards will be over $200 before rebates, a 7900GS or x1950pro will be cheaper and smoke both cards, and probably have a better resale value.

The 7600GS SLi hes referring to will cost $100 in total!! wow, that will definately beat a 7600GT for that price.

Go for it since anything else than a 7600GT will cost you more in price. 7900GS/X1950pros are around 199 so, i think it will be worth it. Just make sure you have a SLi motherboard.

I was looking at newegg and saw a GS go for 150 dollars AR. A 7900GS SLi would surely beat anything in the $299 segment :) food for thought~

Umm, the 7600GS SLI doesn't even beat a 7600GT. LINK

SLI is a tinkerer's dream though, lol. A set of 7900GS in SLI might be worth it for the "grin factor". :p

Well, yeah, that's probably the crux of it for me.

Since I'm not a gamer, Beachboy, I find this comparison where two 7600 GS's in SLI do spank a 7600 GT more to the point.

Plus, for me, I like these cards because they are low power (a mere 32W), silent (fanless), and low profile. So after I satisfy my fleeting SLI lust, I can look around for a matx board with pci-e to put one in, and maybe trade the other, or put it in a system for a friend -- dual, dual link DVI and HDMI out are quite useful ports to have!

Anyway, thanks everyone for your feedback! Anyone else want to weigh in?

I'd say if you don't mind waiting for the rebates then go for it.

It should be fun just to tinker with the new SLI. :p

The performance isn't going to be great and you would lose the ability to have multiple displays if you SLI them. Not sure if that matters to you.

I sincerely doubt I would keep them SLI, even though I do have an SLI board. So I could always go back to multiple displays in the end, with four dual link DVI ports to avail myself of, should I choose to keep both cards in the same system (also not my long-range plan).

In the meantime, just for the hell of it, I more or less just wanna' play, and see, and temporarily be able to loudly announce to complete strangers that I have an SLI system, then bore them with the details!

Well, yeah, * sigh *, rebates. Not to mention I'd also have to employ a rebate buddy, which is eminently doable but just one more nagging complication in my grand scheme for illusory mid-range vid card dominance! :p

Edit: Damn you, tempting Google checkout bonus, daaaaamn you! <---- Shakes clenched fist.

Review1

This review seems to say otherwise.

But as you can see a single 7600GT would be much more beneficial because SLi doesnt work with multiple monitors unless you disable SLi. Since your not a gamer, it just might be worth it, cause it sounds too cool to be true. :D

i think the only reason i'd get 7600sli is because those xfx 7600s are passively cooled, so if you wanted to build a quiet box , it wouldnt be too horrible.
